Underground Sprinkler System

If you are tried of constantly watering your garden or your lawn, you may be considering an alternative. When you live in an area that is not getting a lot of rain, you may find yourself watering your plants on a regular and daily basis.

After a while, this can get old, and you may find you don’t have the time to do it properly each time. When this happens, you might want to consider getting an underground sprinkler system for your property. You will probably have to go to a home store either in person or online to find what you are looking for, as most department stores do not carry these.

You won’t find many people who will argue with you when you say an underground sprinkler system is far superior to any other type. It is very inconvenient to have hoses and above ground sprinklers littering your lawn and garden, and on top of that, it makes mowing your property an ordeal at times. When you have constantly stop to move hoses and sprinklers to care for your lawn, you will soon find yourself wishing you had an underground sprinkler system.

Portland Oregon Landscaping Services

Can you imagine a state that invests more in their landscaping than they do their public schools? Well, if one exists, it's Oregon. Just drive up there and take a gander at all the portland oregon landscaping businesses. Then take a good long look at the public school buildings. You will soon see what I mean. I was shocked at first when I saw all the sprinklers come on around me. It was like I was being attacked by the numerous little fountains of water.

They knew I was an outsider, and they were surely going to report it back to the portland oregon landscaping committee. Does this sound feasible to you? Okay, so maybe it's a tad far fetched, but you get my point about the abundance of sprinkler systems, right? I had only wished at the time that they invested so well in central air. I couldn't believe that this wasn't standard in all homes. Where I'm from we all have central air. It's just part of the home or apartment package. You know, like heat is. Regardless, the infinite lawns were looking immaculate.

Painted Flower Pots

It seems that we are always looking at different methods to raise funds at church. There are so many things to pay for with youth activities and also items that are needed for different functions. We try to raise money throughout the year so we can avoid holiday seasons when people are usually strapped for cash.

We also try to have original ideas as well as useful items. This spring we decided to make and sell painted flower pots. Each person on the committee was responsible to bring ten clay pots. We had talked about a number of places to look for the pots including garage sales, our own garages and also discount stores.

The pots could be in any sizes we could find and should be as inexpensive as possible. My neighbor had four clay pots that she gave to me and I found three more at a garage sale. I purchased the other three at a closeout sale. My ten pots cost two dollars and I had three different sizes.

We had agreed that no one needed to spend a great deal of time cleaning the pots because we put them through our dishwasher at church. Once they were cleaned we were ready to create our painted flower pots. We are fortunate to have the art teacher from the high school on our committee.

She was able to order the painting supplies for us and also the school gave us used paints that would not be stored over the summer. We gathered one Saturday morning and started creating our painted flower pots. Some of us brought our children along and let them help.

Using Wooden Gates For Landscaping

When we think of wooden garden gates most of us immediately picture flowers surrounding a white picket fence and a humble gate to welcome visitors.

Not all yards are the same and wooden garden gates come in a variety of styles and colors to accommodate your specific tastes. Before you choose wrought iron or plastic counterparts make sure that you explore the many options available in wood gates.

Whether you want to capture an outdoor shabby chic decorating style or whether you want a Japanese garden scene you can certainly find wooden garden gates to suit your needs. The various styles and sizes offered can help you create your ideal yard oasis with little effort.

There are traditional, modern and custom made wooden garden gates in the vast selection so it helps if you have a landscaping plan in mind before you make a purchase.

The wooden garden gates come in a variety of colors. Sometimes a little color is all that you need to make a significant statement in your landscaping design. Keep in mind that your fence gate will be the focal point of the landscape so make sure that you choose your color wisely. If the structure is close to your house you probably will want to choose a color to match your home.

Outdoor Patio Set

We wanted to expand the amount of space that we have for entertaining. We did not want to complete a full addition on our home, so we decided to increase the size of the deck off of our dining room.

The existing deck was only large enough for two deck chairs. We wanted an area that would be large enough to accommodate an outdoor patio set as well as a grill. The deck is accessed through a French door off the dining room so this would lend to convenient use.

We had a local contractor take a look at the project. The small deck was made of redwood however we wanted to make the larger deck out of cedar. The contractor said that he would have use for the redwood decking and would subtract this from the cost of the project. We explained that we wanted to have enough room for an outdoor patio set that could seat eight people and also a grill.

He suggested adding a built in bench along the side of the deck. He would design storage in the bench for the cushions from the outdoor patio set. The bench would provide extra seating during the summer months and would also provide a place to sit during the winter months when the outdoor patio set would be in storage. He also thought there would be enough space to have a small patio fireplace.

Outdoor Fire Pits

We live in an area where mosquitoes are a problem, so we did not want to dig a pond. We went to a home improvement store and started looking through the lawn and garden department. As we were looking I noticed that they had a section for outdoor fireplaces including a ring for an outdoor fire pit. My husband and I knew that we had found the new addition for our backyard.

We used to do a great deal of camping. Since we have moved into a more rural area we no longer go camping. One of the things that both of us loved to do was to sit around the campfire and talk. We agreed that an outdoor fire pit would allow us to do this in our own backyard. We have access to firewood from the huge woods on the edge of our property, so buying wood to burn in the outdoor fire pit would not be an issue.

There were several designs at the home improvement store to choose from. There was an outdoor fire pit that included a brick grill to barbeque on. We had recently purchased a gas grill so we decided we did not need that feature. We decided to keep things simple. We purchased a large metal fire ring as well as fireproof bricks.

Choosing Your Lawn Sprinklers

Are you obsessed with your lawn's appearance? Modern day America is plain and simply in love with their lawns and gardens. Especially suburbanites. Are you one of the many, who pluck random weeds, mow weekly, water the tulips, and sprinkle down grass treatments on a regular basis?

Now there's no reason to be ashamed of this. Heck, we're all aware of the ongoing "best lawn on the block" competition that's always up for grabs. The big question is; is your lot getting all the moisture it needs to keep up that gloriously green appearance? Well, if you have lawn sprinklers that are set on a timer, then the answer is probably yes. Who's watering your yard these days?

Have any decent lawn sprinklers yet? Hey, you'd better get on the ball. Your neighbor's grass is probably looking immaculate. Am I right or am I right? Have no fear; those much-needed lawn sprinklers you've been after are close at hand. It's time to head over to the nearest Lowe's or Home Depot, folks.

Landscaping With Rocks

If you want an attractive arrangement in your yard or garden but you don’t want to spend an awful lot of money, try landscaping with rocks. You do not have to make significant purchases when working with this material because you most likely have a whole collection of them on your property already.

My husband and I decided to try landscaping with rocks because we kept uncovering stones while we were gardening, walking and playing on the property. The stones come in an array of shapes and sizes that help to create depth and interest in even the most simply arrangements.

The first thing we did was arrange a circle of stones around three large trees that are located in the front yard. Landscaping with rocks around each of the trees defined the space. Each tree has its own collection of landscape stones surrounding it. The circles are arranged a little over a foot from the bottom of each tree.

"Using rocks can greatly change the look of your landscape while adding uniqueness to your yard."

We laid plastic over the grass and weeds growing awkwardly around the trees and used the landscape stones to weigh it down. We put red mulch over the plastic to create a tailored look. The result of landscaping with rocks in this case was a high-priced look for very little money. The only investment we made was the cheap plastic and the mulch.

Landscaping Lights

At the home improvement center we found that there are a wide variety of landscaping lights to choose from. Some of the landscaping lights were sold in sets and others were sold individually. There was a wide variety of solar powered landscaping lights. We liked this option because we would not have to run cords and wires. We have two dogs that like to chase chipmunks and squirrels and we were concerned that they would get tangled in wires and electrical cords. The solar landscaping lights have a battery that is charged by sun light. The lights come on automatically at dusk and stay lit for several hours. We liked the idea that the lighting would not cost additional money on our electric bill. Each solar light has its own battery cell, so they do not have to be placed a certain distance from each other. With the electrical lights you can only space them as far apart as the length of the cord.

We purchased eight solar lights that were shaped like small coach lights. They were made of copper and attached to stakes that you push into the ground. We placed them around the front and side of our home amongst the shrubs. In placing them you need to be sure that the cell that gathers the solar light is facing north. We had also purchased two larger solar lights that hang on shepherd hooks. We placed one of these at the beginning of the front walk way and one by the back walkway.

Ideas For Landscaping

One day I was working in our backyard area trying to develop a new flower garden. To do this I needed to remove a small amount of sod. The banker saw me working and came over to see what landscaping ideas I had for the area. I explained that I was going to develop a rock garden with annuals to add some color to this area of the yard. He suggested putting in a small pond with a water fountain. I thought that this landscaping idea sounded a bit more involved than I wanted to get. I explained that I did not want to start a project that would take a great deal of time and maintenance. He told me that he had several magazines that featured landscaping ideas and water features were easy to do. He offered to bring over the magazines for me to look through and also offered to help with the project.

After looking through the magazines I did get several good landscaping ideas for the area. One did include a small water feature. The area that I was concentrating on was close to the side of the house. There was a water spigot close that could be used in the water feature. I showed the design to my husband and he thought it was very attractive, but he was concerned about the amount of work it would take. I told him that the banker offered to help. My husband knows that the banker is a hard worker with good follow through so we decided to go with the landscaping ideas from the magazine.

Backyard Landscape Ideas & How To's

Do you have any good backyard landscape ideas? This is one of the key elements to having a beautiful home. Not only do you want to keep your house looking stellar on the inside, but you want to be sure the curb appeal is at the right level as well.

How can you go about this you may ask? Well, the truth is there are many ways to improve your home's aesthetic appeal. Landscaping is certainly one of the biggest. Folks pay attention to what your yard, bushes, and trees look like throughout the year. This is why you always see your neighbor manicuring his lawn three times a week. It's a big deal in middle class suburbia. So, what do you intend to do to your lawn and trees next?

When it comes to backyard landscape ideas, I must admit that I have a few. Now, I definitely wouldn't call myself a "yard" kind of guy. I've never been too into the whole trimming, pruning, watering and mulching routine. I just haven't hit that spot in my life yet I guess. I am more of a "the lawn is mowed, therefore everything is done" kind of guy.

Does this sound familiar at all? Maybe you are the same way, or maybe your spouse is. Regardless of what I fail to do with backyard landscape ideas, so many other people do them and do them to the fullest. I see perfect lawns, trees, and hedges around my neighborhood. I'm almost inclined to ask them to do my yard as well. Hey, they obviously like it a ton. I might as well add to their happiness.

Outdoor Plants For Your Home

We recently expanded our patio area. We love the new space but there is one area that seems to be wasted space. It is not large enough for a chair so I thought I would look at outdoor plants that could fill the space.

I had other outdoor plants in the yard, but I did not want a short blooming plant in this area because you would not be able to see it due to the railing. I went off to the local nursery to see what I could find.

The nursery was filled with outdoor plants of all kinds. I had been here several times to purchase my bedding plants as well as vegetable plants. The owner of the nursery asked if she could help me. I told her that I needed a plant to put in a corner of the deck. She showed me beautiful hibiscus trees.

These plants are specially bred to be outdoor plants, but they can be brought indoors for the winter months. I loved the plants, but they needed partial shade and the area of the deck I needed them for was in full sun light. We looked at several other outdoor plants that can withstand the hot sun, but none of them were tall enough for the space that I wanted to fill.

I was getting ready to leave when I spotted a large patio tomato plant that had a sturdy stake in the middle. The plant and stake was about 5 feel tall.

The nursery owner said that she would sell it to me, but she was concerned that some of the tomatoes would come off during transport. I had brought our pick up truck to the nursery because I knew I wanted a tall plant. We taped a cardboard shield around the plant to protect it for the three miles to my home.

Backyard Landscape Ideas

I have had many backyard landscape ideas for quite a long time now, but my job has kept me so completely busy that I have been unable to do the work that I wanted to, to make my yard look great.

Although some of my backyard landscape ideas were rather simple and conventional - such as a brick path through the garden, or a wooden patio for barbecues - even these were beyond me because I had such a limited amount of time. All of my friends would always tell me that I was a workaholic, and that I simply needed to cut back on all the stuff that I was doing to give myself time for backyard landscaping, as well as all of my other hobbies, but I simply could not make myself do it. When, at the age of 54, I had my first heart attack however, I realized that it was not just a matter of giving myself more time to enjoy the things that I loved to do. Taking time off was really a matter of life and death to me.

Ideas For Backyard Landscaping

There are many benefits that come with owning your own home. One of them is backyard landscaping. This is a way to create a unique area that you and your family can enjoy. Backyard landscaping often involves some initial intense labor, but the effects are worth the effort.

It is important when starting landscaping projects to plan how much time you want to invest to maintain the look of the project. When we first moved to our home we loved the backyard. The previous owner had planted a huge variety of perennials in the backyard as well as along the side of the house. The flowers added color for each season, however keeping the weeds under control was very time consuming.

After two seasons we decided that the backyard landscaping needed to be less time consuming. The previous owner had been a teacher, with the entire summer off. This allowed her ample time to work in the flower gardens. We both work full time so the weeds were always getting away from us. The backyard landscaping no longer looked as beautiful as when we moved in.

There were several people that we knew that wanted the perennials. We dug them out and shared them with others for their backyard landscaping. We then laid down heavy black plastic to prevent weeds from growing up in the area. We covered the area with washed river rocks that we had delivered from the local nursery.

We placed landscaping tiles around the rocks to hold them in place. To finish our backyard landscaping project we placed large pots of colorful annuals and a park bench to sit on. We find that we enjoy the time sitting on the park bench enjoying our backyard landscaping.

One of the neighbors commented on how neat the backyard appears now. And we find that we spend more time in the space because of the bench. I told my husband that I prefer sitting on the bench watching the birds on the feeders rather than pulling weeds.

Backyard landscaping should enhance the enjoyment of owning your own home. It should not be so time consuming that it ads stress on your precious time. By keeping the backyard landscaping simple you can have a unique area and also have the time to enjoy it.

Yard Landscaping Ideas

We live in a neighborhood where everyone takes pride in their yards. As a result there are many landscaping ideas that people use to enhance the look of their yard.

One of our neighbor’s has great landscaping ideas and talents and is willing to share them with others.

He is a banker so he spends many hours behind a desk each day. When he arrives home he likes to spend as much time as possible outdoors. He has found that by helping the neighbors with landscaping ideas he can try out different projects without having all of them in his yard.

He does not want to have so many projects in his space that it looks cluttered.

One day I was working in our backyard area trying to develop a new flower garden. To do this I needed to remove a small amount of sod. The banker saw me working and came over to see what landscaping ideas I had for the area. I explained that I was going to develop a rock garden with annuals to add some color to this area of the yard.
